Senior guard Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) showed we he was a preseason All-American, scoring 23 points to lead The University of Scranton men's basketball team to an 83-70 victory over Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday afternoon in the Long Center.
After that season-high scoring output, Danzig has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Danzig, who was slowed by an early season ankle injury, played a season-high 36 minutes in Sunday's win as the Royals (6-1, 3-0 Landmark) remained undefeated in games he has played in. He finished seven of 15 from the field and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. He also displayed the all-around game that made him one of the top players in the nation, finishing with seven assists, six rebounds and a steal while turning the ball over just once.
This week's honor marks the second time in his career that Danzig has been named University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for basketball, and third time overall. He has also earned the honor this past spring after a big week as a member of the baseball team.
The Royals, who are ranked 18th in the D3hoops.com Top 25, return to action on Saturday, Dec. 27, when they face Husson at 7 p.m. as part of the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.
