Royals To Meet Baruch College (NY) in NCAA 1st-round game Friday in Massachusetts

The University of Scranton men’s basketball team will make its 26th appearance in the NCAA Division III championships this Friday, March 6, against Baruch College (NY) at Staake Gymnasium on the campus of Babson College in Babson Park, Massachusetts.  

The other first-round game will feature Westfield St. (Mass.) against #5-ranked Babson College. Starting times and ticket information will be announced shortly.

The Royals (22-5) earned an automatic bid by winning its second straight and sixth Landmark Conference championship in the league’s eight-year history by defeating Catholic University, 76-65, Saturday afternoon in Washington, DC.  It will also be the eighth NCAA appearance for Scranton under veteran head coach Carl Danzig.

Baruch (21-6) also earned an automatic bid by winning the City University of New York Athletic Conference title Saturday with a 90-83 victory over Brooklyn College at home.   The Bearcats have won three straight and five of their last six games.   Friday’s meeting with be the second between the Royals and Baruch.  On November 17, 2012, Scranton defeated the Bearcats, 81-69, in the championship game of the Radisson Invitational at the Long Center.

Westfield St. (20-6) advanced to the NCAA field by winning the Massachusetts States Collegiate Athletic Conference title Saturday with a 78-69 win over Bridgewater State, while Babson (25-2) captured the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference championship with a 72-62 win over Springfield College Sunday.
