As The University of Scranton men's basketball team heads into the final stretch of its regular season schedule, junior forward Brendan Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) has shown no signs of letting up on the Royals' opponents.
Boken had two more strong games last week, helping the Royals (15-4, 9-1 Landmark) post a pair of double-digit victories. As a result, Boken has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
In the two victories, Boken averaged 18.5 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals. For the season, he's averaging 18.0 points, which is second in the Landmark Conference, and 7.1 rebounds, fourth-best in the conference.
Boken opened the week by scoring a team-high 23 points and pulling down seven rebounds as Scranton posted a 73-63 victory on the road against Drew in Madison, N.J. He finished 10-for-14 from the field and scored 13 of his points in the first half as the Royals raced out to a 45-28 lead at the break.
Three days later, Boken had another big day to help the Royals celebrate Senior Day with a 65-43 victory over Elizabethtown in the Long Center. He finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in 26 minutes of action.
Boken and the Royals remain in second place in the conference standings with six games remaining. Scranton returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Moravian at 7 p.m.
