Freshman guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team appears to have fully adjusted to the college game in recent weeks. On Saturday, he played one of his best games of the season to help the Royals knock off nationally ranked Catholic in the regular season finale.
After scoring 16 points in the victory in the Long Center, Danzig has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Playing in front of the largest crowd of the season in the Long Center, Danzig scored eight points in each half while finishing 6-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. He made back-to-back 3-pointers that were part of a 9-2 run just before the midway point of the second half that gave the Royals a 62-44 lead en route to snapping the Cardinals' 15-game winning streak.
Danzig also had a 3-pointer, three assists, two steals, a block and a rebound in a 66-60 victory at Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 18. That victory secured the no. 2 seed in this week's Landmark Conference playoffs for the Royals.
Over the last six games, Danzig is averaging 11.7 points per game while shooting 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from 3-point range.
The Royals will host Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference semifinal on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Long Center.
