Senior guard Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) put forth an MVP performance while leading The University of Scranton men's basketball team to the title in the PNC Bank/Radisson Invitational in the Long Center over the weekend. As a result, he has been named Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
Klingman averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist as the Royals won the title for the fifth straight season and the seventh time overall.
In the title game, a 57-54 win over Alvernia on Sunday, Klingman took over with two starters on the bench with injuries and a third in foul trouble. He finished with a team-high 16 points while making four of seven from 3-point range. His 3-pointer with 5:12 remaining gave Scranton a 47-44 lead and the Royals would not trail again the rest of the way.
In Saturday's opening-round 69-54 victory over Centenary, Klingman scored 13 points while making three of six 3-point attempts. He added six rebounds while playing a team-high 36 points.
Klingman and the Royals return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 18, when they travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia at 7 p.m.
