The Hilton Scranton Invitational will serve as the perfect tip-off to The University of Scranton men's basketball team's 2016-17 season. The event is one of the numerous highlights on the schedule, released today by head coach Carl Danzig.
The Royals will host the Hilton Scranton Invitational in the Long Center on Friday, Nov. 18, and Saturday, Nov. 19. Opening day action pits Bard against Penn State-Abington at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Royal hosting Sarah Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's action starts with the third-place game at 2 p.m., followed by the title game at 4.
Other highlights of the 2016-17 schedule include the Cross-County Challenge at Wilkes on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27. The Royals will face King's at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Wilkes at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Scranton will also travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to play Dubuque on Monday, Dec. 19, and Montclair State a day later. Game times have not been announced. A home non-conference game with Gettysburg on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. is also a highlight of the non-conference schedule, as the Bullets are coming off an 18-9 season in 2015-16.
Landmark Conference play begins with a home game against Juniata on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. in the Long Center. That's the Royals' lone conference game before the new year, as they won't face another Landmark foe until Saturday, Jan. 7, when they visit Elizabethtown at 4 p.m.
The Landmark Conference playoffs are set for Wednesday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 25.
