Junior guard Mitch Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) gave The University of Scranton men's basketball team a boost of the bench last week, averaging 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals off the bench. For his efforts, he has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.
Cross opened the week with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 20 minutes off the bench in a 77-66 loss at Arcadia on Tuesday, Dec. 13. He went 5-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range, and he scored eight of his 13 points in the first half when the Royals built a four-point lead.
On Sunday, Dec. 18, Cross scored 12 points and added three rebounds, two steals and an assist in a 63-51 win over Emory & Henry in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He went 4-for-7 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range while playing 16 minutes.
For the season, Cross is averaging 6.8 points while shooting 53.3 percent from 3-point range. He has made 16 3-pointers in the team's first nine games after making a total of 22 last season.
Cross and the Royals are in action this afternoon when they take on Montclair State at 3 p.m. EST (4 p.m. local) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
