Three of the most prolific scorers in University of Scranton men's basketball team were recognized Tuesday as some of the best players in the Landmark Conference's 10-year history.
Guards Zach Ashworth and Ross Danzig, and forward Brendan Boken were named to the Landmark Conference All-Decade Team, which is part of the conference's year-long celebration of its 10th anniversary. Each of the three is ranked in the Royals' top six in career scoring.
Ashworth is the only two-time Landmark Conference Player of the year in the conference's 10-year history. He won the award in 2010 and 2011 in addition to earning all-conference honors in all four years (second team in 2008, first team in 2009, 2010 and 2011). He finished his career with 1,786 career points, sixth-most in Royals history, and had 224 made 3-pointers, second-most in program history.
Ashworth helped the Royals win Landmark Conference titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Boken was the conference Player of the Year in 2016 after finishing his career with a school-record 1,911 points. He was a first-team all-conference selection in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and helped the Royals win conference titles in 2014 and 2015. He also finished his career with 837 rebounds (eighth in program history) and field goal percentage of 57.8 (second).
Danzig was named Landmark Conference Player of the Year in 2014 and Rookie of the Year in 2011. He was a first-team all-conference selection in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and helped Scranton win conference titles in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Danzig finished his career with 1,793 points (fourth in Royals history) and 184 made 3-pointers (fifth).
Athletes who were named all-conference first team at least twice, and/or were named Landmark Player of the Year, were automatically eligible for Landmark Conference All-Decade Team consideration. Each institution also had the opportunity to nominate additional individuals for consideration. The All-Decade team was selected by the member institutions.
