Senior center John Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) finished the regular season with a flourish to lead The University of Scranton men's basketball team to the top seed in this week's Landmark Conference playoffs.
Vitkus averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of wins last week, earning him a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, which recognizes the five best performances around the nation in NCAA Division III basketball.
Vitkus began the week by matching his career high with 24 points while pulling down 10 rebounds in a 75-66 victory over 15th-ranked Susquehanna on Wednesday night. He went 9-for-15 from the field and 6-for-10 from the line, and added two assists, a block and a steal.
Three days later, he had 21 points and 11 rebounds in an 85-70 win over Goucher on Senior Day in the Long Center. He finished that game 6-for-9 from the field and 9-for-13 from the line, and added a block, a steal and an assist.

Vitkus and the Royals (19-6) open the Landmark Conference playoffs as the top seed and will host fourth-seeded Catholic (17-8) in a semifinal on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Long Center.
