Senior center John Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had a standout season for The University of Scranton men's basketball team, and the postseason awards continue to roll in.

Vitkus was named first-team all-Middle Atlantic Region by D3hoops.com on Monday, two weeks after being named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-Landmark.

Vitkus was a dominant force in the paint all season, averaging 17.2 points while shooting 63.5 percent from the field. He also averaged 8.1 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.4 assists and 0.8 steals. He led the Landmark Conference in blocks per game and was second in field goal percentage, third in rebounding and fifth in scoring. He was also named the Landmark Conference championship MVP after the Royals won the title on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Over the team's final 13 games, Vitkus played the best basketball of his career, averaging 18.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.6 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 65.6 percent from the field. Vitkus becomes the ninth men's basketball player in Scranton history to earn all-region honors from D3hoops.com, which started naming all-region teams in 2002. The Royals have had at least one player earn D3hoops.com all-region honors in each of the past eight seasons, and they have had a first-team selection in each of the past four.

Vitkus led the Royals to a 22-7 overall record, including the team's seventh Landmark Conference title and 24th conference title overall. He also led the Royals to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the 28th in program history.
