Senior guard Mitch Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) got the holiday season off to a festive start, scoring a career-high 27 points to lead The University of Scranton men's basketball team to a win just before Christmas. As a result, he has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Cross tallied his career high in an 85-72 win over Ursinus on Tuesday, Dec. 19, in the Long Center. He went a sizzling 8-for-10 from the field, including 7-for-8 from 3-point range. He also hit all four of his free throw attempts and added five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.
Cross's seven 3-pointers were a career high and they were two shy of matching the program's single-game record. His 27 points also marked the second-most by a Royal this season.
The men's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 3, when the Royals travel to Gettysburg, Pa. to take on Gettysburg in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
