Senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team averaged 21.5 points in a pair of Landmark Conference victories and reached a career milestone last week. As a result, he has been named The University's Athlete of the Week.
Danzig opened the week by scoring 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, in an 84-73 victory over Susquehanna on Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the Long Center. His milestone point came on a free throw midway through the second half, part of an 18-point second half that helped Scranton pull away.
With that free throw, Danzig became the 43rd player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, Danzig poured in seven 3-pointers on his way to 23 points in a 96-72 win over Goucher in the Long Center. He finished the week going 10-for-17 from beyond the arc, and he has now made at least 3 3-pointers in nine of the team's 15 games, including seven of the last eight.
For the season, Danzig leads the Royals in scoring at 15.3 points per game and has made 46 3-pointers. His 241 career 3-pointers are the program record, which he set earlier this season.
Danzig and the Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Moravian in a Landmark Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
