The action in the Long Center got started a bit early this past weekend as The University of Scranton men's basketball team held its alumni game on Saturday prior to the Royals' tip-off against Goucher.
In true Scranton fashion, the game was hard-fought and tight-knit from beginning to end. The purple team pulled out to a solid lead early in the second half, but a streak of hot 3-point shooting from P.J. Kelly put the grey team ahead late.
But the purple side had the final say as Tommy Morgan's long 3-pointer at the final buzzer was the difference in an 83-82 victory. Morgan's teammate, Marcus Thomas, was named MVP. They were joined on the winning team by Matt Swaback, Travis Farrell, Ed O'Connell, Michael Barr and Brendan Boken.
The grey team, which vowed revenge in next year's game, featured Kelly, John Vitkus, Bill Burke, Sean Cummings, Brian Farrell, Patrick Calvey and Ross Danzig.
