Senior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team continued his outstanding play over the past week, averaging 17.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in two games. As a result, he has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Schankweiler had one of the best weeks of his career, posting a pair of double-doubles, giving him 10 on the season. He started the week by putting up 16 points and 16 rebounds in a 77-65 win at Drew on Wednesday, Feb. 7. He was 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 at the foul line while adding three steals, two blocks and an assist.
On Saturday, Schankweiler had 19 points and 16 rebounds in an 81-79 loss to Catholic. He went 6-for-10 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line, and also had three assists, a block and a steal.
In 11 games since Jan. 6, Schankweiler has averaged 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 76.0 percent from the field. On the season, he is averaging 13.3 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 68.4 percent from the field, which is on pace to break the school record for highest field goal percentage in a single season.
Schankweiler and the Royals are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on Susquehanna at 7 p.m.
