Seniors Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) and Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team have been named to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team.
Danzig earns second-team honors for the second straight season while Schankweiler earns all-conference honors for the first time.
Danzig led the Royals in scoring at 14.6 points per game and 3-pointers made with 74, which ranks fourth on the program's single-season list. He made at least one 3-pointer in 22 of 24 games and had four or more on seven occasions, including a season-high eight in an 85-79 win over King's on Nov. 25.
In 24 games, Danzig also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 blocks and 0.8 steals per game. He shot 81.8 percent from the free throw line and averaged a team-high 34.1 minutes per game. He finishes his career as the most prolific 3-point shooter in Scranton history with 269 3-pointers.
Schankweiler finished second on the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game while setting a single-season school record for field goal percentage at 69.0, which currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division III. He led the team in rebounding at 10.7 per game and had a team-high 12 double-doubles, including five straight to end the season.
Schankweiler was one of the best big men in the region over the final two months of the season. Over the final 13 games of the season, all against Landmark Conference opponents, he averaged 16.8 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting 75.4 percent (92-for-122) from the field.
Earlier this season, Danzig and Schankweiler were named co-recipients of the John "Les" Dickman Award, which is presented annually to the Royals' most valuable player. The senior duo helped the Royals go 13-12, including 9-5 in conference play, this season.
