The University of Scranton men's basketball team is no stranger to facing tough competition. The 2018-19 season will be no different.

The Royals will play four games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, and six more against teams that won at least 17 games. Factor in an always competitive Landmark Conference schedule and it should be another exciting year of Scranton basketball.

Scranton will open the season a week earlier than usual, thanks to an NCAA rules change that allows teams to start their seasons earlier. The Royals will travel to Owings Mills, Md. to take on Stevenson on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. in the season opener, which comes a week earlier than in previous seasons.

After that opening road game, head coach Carl Danzig's squad returns to the Long Center for the home opener on Friday, Nov. 16, in the Hilton Scranton Invitational. The Royals will take on Hartwick at 7:30 p.m. following the first game between Ursinus and St. Lawrence. Saturday's championship game tips off at 4 p.m. and is immediately preceded by the third-place game at 2 p.m.

The Royals then play two more home non-conference games – Tuesday, Nov. 20, vs. Widener at 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, Nov. 28, vs. Cabrini at 8 p.m. – before opening Landmark Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 1, against Goucher at 2 p.m. in the Long Center.

Scranton then goes on the road to face York (Pa.) on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. Like Cabrini, the Spartans advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year. Following that road game, the Royals return home to face Manhattanville (Monday, Dec. 17, 3 p.m.) and The College of New Jersey (Thursday, Dec. 20, 3 p.m.) to close out the pre-Christmas schedule.

The annual Cross-County Challenge will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 29-30, at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The Royals will face Wilkes at 1 p.m. on Saturday before taking on the host Monarchs on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Scranton will complete its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 2, by hosting Gettysburg at 7 p.m.

Highlights of the Landmark Conference schedule include a visit to defending champion Moravian on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., matchups with Catholic on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Long Center and Saturday, Feb. 2, in Washington, D.C., and the return matchup against Moravian in the Long Center on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m.
