Junior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team enjoyed a strong start to his season, posting a double-double to lead the Royals to a win at Stevenson in Saturday's season opener. For his performance, he has been selected as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
Mancuso powered Scranton to an 86-65 win against the Mustangs by pairing a team-high 20 points with a game-best 13 rebounds for his second career double-double. He shot 53.3 percent from the field in the contest, making 8-of-15 of his attempts from the floor.
In 31 minutes of action, Mancuso also dished out two assists and made four of his six free throw attempts against Stevenson.
For his career, Mancuso is averaging 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Last season, her ranked third on the team in scoring with 13.8 points per contest.
Mancuso and the Royals will play their home opener on Friday, taking on Hartwick in the first round of the Hilton Scranton Invitational in the Long Center. Tipoff between the Royals and Hawks is set for 7:30 p.m.
