Junior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team recorded game-highs in scoring and rebounding on Tuesday night to lead the Royals to a victory over Widener. As a result of this effort, he has been honored as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
In Scranton's 84-74 triumph over Widener last Tuesday, Mancuso led all players with 25 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field with one three-pointer made while posting an impressive, 12-of-13 effort from the free throw line.
Mancuso came up big on the glass as well, corralling a game-high nine rebounds including eight at the defensive end. He also blocked three shots and dished out two assists in 30 minutes of action against the Pride.
Mancuso, who was also named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on November 12, has been a force inside for Scranton in the early part of the season, averaging a double-double with 19.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He has also contributed nine assists, four blocks, and four steals.
He ranks second in the Landmark Conference in rebounding and is third in scoring, is tied for fourth in blocks per game, tied for sixth in field goal percentage (56.5), and eighth in free throw percentage (86.7).
Mancuso's strong start to the season has lifted Scranton to a 4-0 record. The Royals will look to remain unbeaten on Wednesday night when they host Cabrini in a non-conference game starting at 8 p.m. in the John Long Center.
