Fresh off the heels of a 20-win campaign in 2018-19 and returning a strong nucleus from a season ago, The University of Scranton men's basketball program announced their 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday, and as always, the Royals will challenge themselves throughout the course of the season.
Head coach Carl Danzig's (who enters his 19th year as Scranton's head coach in 2019-20) Royals begin the season on November 9, as they entertain Stevenson inside the John Long Center at 7 p.m. Last year, Scranton traveled south to Stevenson and opened the season strong, blowing out the host Mustangs, 86-65, to kick-off a 12-0 start to the season.
The following week, the Royals hosts the annual Hilton Scranton Invitational inside the Long Center, where on Nov. 15, Scranton takes on Houghton at 7:30 p.m. In the first game of the evening, William Paterson clashes with Sarah Lawrence, as the winners of both games will then face off in the Invitational championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. (the consolation game between the losers of Friday's games takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday).
Following back-to-back road games at Wilkes (Nov. 20) and Cabrini (Nov. 23), the Royals return back home for a test against York on Dec. 4.
The Spartans are one of three teams Scranton will play in the non-conference slate that made the NCAA Division III Tournament a season ago, as the Royals will also take on DeSales at home on Dec. 16, and Arcadia on Jan. 8. The Arcadia game will also be Scranton's final non-conference game of the regular year, as well.
On Dec. 7, Scranton opens up Landmark Conference action for the season at Goucher, and following the home game with DeSales after final exams on Dec. 16, the Royals will head south to the Hoop Miami D3 Holiday Shootout. There, Scranton takes on Bates on Dec. 18, then UMass Dartmouth on Dec. 20.
After taking a break for the holiday season, Scranton returns home on Jan. 4th clashing with local rival King's. Then, after going on the road to Arcadia, Scranton will then embark into the teeth of their Landmark Conference slate, beginning with a match-up against Elizabethtown on Jan. 11 inside the Long Center.
Highlighting the Landmark Conference slate for Scranton will be games with two-time defending conference champions Moravian at home on Jan. 15 and on the road on Feb. 12, as well as a pair of Landmark Conference playoff rematches with Drew on the road on Jan. 28 and at home on Feb. 19.
The 2019-20 regular season concludes on Feb. 22 when the Royals host Goucher inside the Long Center. The Landmark Conference Semifinals are set for Feb. 26, with the Championship Game slated for Feb. 29.
