With collegiate basketball practices getting underway across the country on Tuesday, The University of Scranton men's basketball program has announced that seniors Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) have been named captains for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

For the pair, this marks the second straight season in which they have been named team captains for the Royals, who finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 20-6 overall mark and a 9-5 ledger in the Landmark Conference.

DeVerna, a guard, has been a mainstay in the Royals lineup for the previous three years, starting 50 total games in his sophomore and junior seasons.

Last year, DeVerna went on to earn All-Landmark Conference Second Team accolades for the first time in his career after averaging 13.6 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Royals. In all, DeVerna went into double-figures in the scoring column in 22 of the 26 games he started in, scoring over 20 points in three games on the year.

Mancuso, meanwhile, has been just as much a presence in the Royals starting five over the last three years, starting 37 games. The forward is coming off the best season of his career at Scranton in 2018-19, as he went on to earn both D3hoops.com Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region and First Team All-Landmark Conference honors at the end of the year.

In all, Mancuso averaged 15.9 points and a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game, totaling 11 double-doubles for the year for Scranton. He also reached double-digits in the scoring column 19 times throughout the course of the year, including nine 20-point plus efforts.

DeVerna and Mancuso will lead an experienced group of Royals into the 2019-20 season, as Scranton and head coach Carl Danzig (in his 19th season) return all five starters from a season ago, along with 15 total letterwinners.

Scranton opens their 2019-20 season on Saturday, November 9 with a match-up against Stevenson inside the John Long Center at 7 p.m. For the full 2019-20 University of Scranton men's basketball schedule, click here: https://athletics.scranton.edu/sports/mbkb/2019-20/schedule.
