Senior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) of the men's basketball team had another big week for the Royals last week, and for his efforts, he was named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec. 22, 2019, on Monday.

For Mancuso, this marks the second time on his career, last earning the award on Dec. 10, 2018.

On the week, Mancuso registered double-doubles in each of the three games the Royals played, as Scranton knocked off DeSales (73-48), Bates (68-64), and UMass-Dartmouth (66-63), winning the last two games in come-from-behind fashion at the HoopsMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami.

First, against DeSales, Mancuso had 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, as the Royals rolled to a win over the Bulldogs in the team's final home game in the John Long Center in the 2019 portion of their schedule last Monday.

The Royals then headed south to Miami, where Mancuso put together a strong game against Bates on Wednesday, leading Scranton with 22 points and 13 rebounds, as Scranton scored the final 12 points of regulation to gut out a four-point victory.

It was more of the same for Scranton in their finale in Miami on Friday against UMass-Dartmouth, as Mancuso once again led the Royals with 17 points and 15 rebounds, as the Royals scored the final eight points of the game to secure the win, which was head coach Carl Danzig's 350th of his career at Scranton.

For the year, Mancuso now has five double-doubles for the 2019-20 season, as he leads the Royals in both scoring (19.0) and rebounding (11.0) average per game. Both of those marks are second in the entire Landmark Conference entering the holiday break, as well.

Mancuso and the rest of the Royals (now 8-2 overall) are now idle for the next 12 days for the holidays. They will return to action on Saturday, January 4 when they take on King's in the John Long Center at 3 p.m.
