Senior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) put together a pair of solid games for the men's basketball team this past week, and for his efforts, he was named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 23, 2020, on Monday.
For Mancuso, this marks the third time in his career that he has been named the Scranton Athlete of the Week, previously earning the award on Dec. 10, 2018 and Dec. 23, 2019.
Mancuso's week began on Wednesday night in a tough 73-70 loss to Drew in the John Long Center, where he put together a strong game inside, scoring a team-high 22 points while pulling down 18 rebounds to lead the Royals in a losing effort. He also dished out five assists and blocked two shots in the game.
On Saturday, Mancuso once again had a double-double in an 81-63 win over Goucher on Senior Day, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the regular season finale win. Mancuso also posted a career-high eight assists in the victory and had three steals and two blocks.
For the year, Mancuso has now registered 13 double-doubles and is averaging 17.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest. He has scored in double figures in every game but one for Scranton on the year, as he will enter the postseason ranked second in the Landmark Conference in both scoring and rebounding for the season.
Mancuso and the rest of The University of Scranton men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday night, as they travel to Drew for the semifinals of the 2020 Landmark Conference Playoffs. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
