NEW HARTFORD, NY—University of Scranton sophomore Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) shot a four-over-par 75 today to maintain his lead at the 2013 Empire 8 Conference men’s golf championships held at the Yahnundasis Golf Club.
Meyer holds a three-stroke lead over Chris Blyth of St. John Fisher in the battle for the individual title. Meyer is at 144, followed by Blyth, who shot an even-par 71 today, at 147. Rounding out the top five are Thad Weir III of St. John Fisher at 149, followed by Alex Todd of Elmira College and the St. John Fisher duo of Ryan McGinnis and Joe Radulski at 150.
St. John Fisher, the two-time defending and 9-time conference champions, shot a 291 today for a 36-hole total of 596. The Cardinals erased a five-shot deficit after the opening round to take a 19-stroke lead over first-round leader Elmira College (615) and The University of Scranton (615).
Stevens Institute of Technology is fourth (656), followed by Susquehanna University (666), Nazareth College (670), Utica College (680), Moravian College (695), and Houghton College (768).
Senior Jamie Bresnahan (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) shot a 77 for the Royals today to move into a three-way tie for 10th place with a 157. Freshman Eric Montella (Waverly, Pa./Abington Heights) carded a 77 today and is two strokes behind Bresnahan and is in a two-way tie for 15th place.
The final 36 holes of the 72-hole Empire 8 Conference men’s golf championship will be held during the spring semester, with the eventual team champion advancing to the NCAA Division III championships.
