Sophomore Griffin Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) shot a 2-over-par 73 on lightning-quick greens in his collegiate debut to lead The University of Scranton men's golf team past Marywood and Wilkes on Tuesday afternoon at Glenmaura National Golf Club. in the team's first event of the 2016-17 season.
Lubba's sterling 73 was five shots better than the second-best score, posted by Royals' senior Tyler Huggins (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), who shot 78. Scranton finished with a four-player score of 314, while Marywood totaled 350 and Wilkes came in at 371.
Scranton also received a 80 from junior Patrick King (Thornton, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and an 83 from junior Matthew Kane (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) to round out the team's top four scores.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday when they take on King's at 1 p.m. at Wyoming Valley Country Club in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
