BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – The University of Scranton men's golf team had a balanced performance in Sunday's second round of the Empire 8 Conference championships, with four golfers shooting in the low 80s.
At the end of the day, the Royals sit in fourth place with a two-day total of 665 after two rounds at Timber Banks Golf Course, a par-72, 6,739-yard layout.
Six-time defending champion and nationally ranked St. John Fisher leads the team standings at 608, followed by Stevens Tech at 637, Moravian at 650, and Scranton. Nazareth sits in fifth at 674, nine shots behind Scranton.
On Sunday, Scranton finished with 332, one shot better than Saturday's opening round. The Royals were led by junior Michael Boland (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer), who had an 82. Senior Tyler Huggins (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and sophomore Kyle Hayes (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) both shot 83, and junior David Harris (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) finished with 84.
After two rounds, Huggins is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard at 11-over-par 162. Boland and Hayes are both tied for 14th at 166, 15 over par. St. John Fisher seniors Joel Jackubowicz and Karl Deuble are tied for the lead at 150, six over par.
The final two rounds of the Empire 8 Conference championships will be played during the spring semester at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
Scranton will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 22, when the Royals take on Keystone at 1 p.m. at Stone Hedge Country Club in Factoryville, Pa.
