HERSHEY, Pa. – Senior Tyler Huggins (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) shot a 6-over-par 77 to help The University of Scranton men's golf team hold its spot in fourth place after the third round of the Empire 8 Conference Championship on Friday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
Huggins' 77 was tied for the second-lowest score of the day and gives him a three-round total of 239, which is 24-over par and good for sixth place overall. Huggins shot rounds of 79-83 in the first two rounds of the championship during the fall season.
The Royals finished the day with a four-player total of 332, the fourth-best team score for the day. That gave them a three-round total of 997. St. John Fisher leads at 929, followed by Stevens Institute of Technology at 959, Moravian at 968, Scranton in fourth and Susquehanna (1,031) rounding out the top five.
Scranton is one round away from notching its seventh straight season finishing in the top four at the Empire 8 Championship.
Sophomore Kyle Hayes (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) shot 80 for Scranton, junior David Harris (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) shot 87 and senior Kevin Nardella (Spring Brook Township, Pa./North Pocono) added 88 to round out the team's top four scores.
The final round tees off on Saturday at noon at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
