Junior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) of The University of Scranton men's golf team had never carded a round in the 70s during his career until last week. When he did, he made it a round to remember.

Ralph shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Royals to a 307-370 win over Wilkes on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Huntsville Golf Club in Dallas, Pa. For his efforts, Ralph has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.

When he stepped to the first tee on Wednesday, Ralph was playing in just his fifth career round and had never shot better than 82 in any of his four previous events. But he had little trouble on the par-72, 6,680-yard layout, earning medalist honors by four shots as Scranton improved to 4-0 on the season.

The men's golf team will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 20, when they Royals host Marywood and Wilkes at 1 p.m. at Glenmaura National Golf Club in nearby Moosic.
