Men's Golf Wins Two Matches On Two Courses On Saturday

The University of Scranton men's golf team sent two different squads to two different courses on Saturday, but came away with the same result at both places – a win.

The Royals knocked off Misericordia, 310-376, in a match they hosted at Scranton Municipal Golf Course in Mount Cobb. At the same time, the Scranton men handled Keystone, 324-459, in a match hosted by the Giants at Stonehedge Golf Course in LaPlume.

At Scranton Municipal, junior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) continued his standout season by firing a 2-over-par 74 to lead the Royals. He made the turn in 4-over 40, but fired a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine to edge his teammate, senior Erik Ridley (Allentown Central Catholic), for medalist honors. Ridley finished with 75.

Junior Ian Connell (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) shot 5-over-par 77 to give Scranton three scores in the 70s. Sophomore Colin Sommers (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) added an 84 in his first collegiate event to round out the top five.

At Stonehedge, The Royals used a balanced effort to handily defeat Keystone. Senior Griffin Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) earned medalist honors with an 80 on the par-71, 6,644-yard layout. His brother, senior Brett Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) joined freshman John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward Institute) with a pair of 81s. Shaughnessy was playing in his first career match.

The third of the Lubba triplets – Travis Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) – finished with 82 to round out the team's top four scores.

The men's golf team will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21, when they compete in a pair of two-day events – the Landmark Conference Fall Invitational at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club in Harrisburg, Pa., and the Biondi Memorial at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa.
