The University of Scranton men's golf team was in action in a pair of events on Saturday – the Landmark Conference Fall Invitational and the Biondi Memorial – and got off to a solid start in the first round of both two-day events.
At the Landmark Conference Fall Invitational, the Royals sit in fourth place among eight teams, but are just seven shots behind first-place Drew with one round left on Sunday. At the Biondi Memorial, Scranton is in fifth place among eight teams.

At Dauphin Highlands Golf Club in Harrisburg, Pa., the Royals sit fourth in a tight race that features six teams within 13 shots of the lead. Drew (306) holds a five-shot edge over second-place Goucher (311), followed by Catholic (312), Scranton (313), Susquehanna (314), Moravian (319), Elizabethtown (328) and Juniata (345).
Royals junior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) sits in a four-way tie for fifth place after carding a 4-over-par 76 on the par-72, 6,756-yard layout. Sophomore Thomas McAuliffe (Reiserstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) is a shot back in a tie for ninth after carding 77.
The second and final round will begin on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.
At Glenmaura National Golf Club in nearby Moosic, the Royals are in the middle of the pack after the opening round with 340 strokes. Franklin & Marshall leads at 306, followed by Rosemont (318), Ursinus (329), Swarthmore (332), Scranton, Cabrini (353), Marywood (357) and Arcadia (363).
Senior Kyle Hayes (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) led the team with a 10-over-par 81. Junior Ian Connell (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) finished with 84 and freshman Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) carded an 86.
Seniors Griffin and Travis Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) both shot 89 to round out the team's scores.
The second and final round will begin Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
