The University of Scranton men's golf team has been picked to finish second in the Landmark Conference this spring according to a preseason poll of the league's eight head coaches.  The Royals totaled 52 points and earned one first place vote in the balloting after finishing as the conference runner-up last spring.

Defending champion Goucher was tabbed as the 2019 Landmark Conference preseason favorite after capturing 62 points and six first place votes to sit 10 points ahead of the Royals.  Drew checked in at third in the poll with 47 points and one first place vote while Catholic was fourth with 35 points.

Moravian was tabbed fifth in the poll with 32 points, Susquehanna came in sixth with 20 points, Elizabethtown placed seventh with 14 points, and Juniata rounded out the balloting in eighth place with 10 points.

Scranton went 11-1 in dual matches last season and finished second at the Landmark Conference Championships after posting a two-day team score of 652, finishing three strokes behind Goucher for the title.

Among the key returners for Ed Karpovich, who is in his 37th season as Scranton's head coach, are sophomore Thomas McAuliffe (Reiserstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield), who was the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year last spring.  McAuliffe earned First Team All- Conference honors in his freshman season after finishing second at the Landmark Conference Championships.

Senior Brett Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) captured Second Team All-Landmark Conference accolades last spring after tying for 11th at the conference championships.

Junior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) led the Royals during the fall semester, with a 76.38 scoring average while McAuliffe averaged 78.00 during the fall.

Senior Erik Ridley (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) ranked third on the team with a 78.67 scoring average while Lubba was fourth for the Royals at 79.00.

Scranton, which went a perfect 9-0 in dual matches in the fall, is scheduled to open the spring portion of its schedule on Thursday, April 4 against King's at the Wyoming Valley Country Club in Wilkes-Barre.

The 2019 Landmark Conference Championships are set for Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5, at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course in Hershey, Pa.
