WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Following an undefeated fall season, The University of Scranton men's golf team picked up right where it left off on Thursday, opening its spring schedule with wins over King's and Wilkes in a tri-match held at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.
The Royals, now 11-0 on the season, posted a team-score of 307 on the par-71 course to defeat the Monarchs (4-4), who carded a 331, and the Colonels (0-6), who checked in with a combined score of 345.
Senior Brett Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) brought home individual medalist honors after shooting an even-par 71 to top the 15-golfer field on Thursday. Lubba's round was also a career-best effort, topping his previous collegiate-best round by three strokes.
Senior Kyle Hayes (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay), also recorded a career-best round, completing the course in 74 strokes to finish in second place.
Freshman Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) placed fourth overall, carding a 78 for the round while junior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) tied for ninth in the field with an 84 on the day.
Senior Erik Ridley (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) was Scranton's fifth finished, posting a round of 86th to finish in 12th place.
Scranton's dual match against Keystone, originally scheduled for Friday, has been postponed due to rain and cold temperatures forecasted for tomorrow. The Royals' next scheduled competition is a dual match with Marywood on Tuesday starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic.
