Senior Brett Lubba (Pompton Plains, N.J. / Pequannock Township) of The University of Scranton men's golf team led the Royals to wins over King's and Wilkes on Thursday, earning individual medalist honors with a career-best round in the tri-match. As a result of his performance, he has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
Playing on the par-71, 6,178-yard course at the Wyoming Valley Country Club on Thursday, Lubba fired a career-best score of 71 to finish first among 15 golfers in the tri-match. His 18-hole score was three better than his previous personal best as Lubba also won the individual competition by three strokes.
Lubba's 71 paced Scranton as the Royals posted a team score of 307 to defeat King's (331) and Wilkes (345) while improving to a perfect 11-0 in the 2018-19 campaign.
Through eight rounds this season, Lubba has a scoring average of 78.0, tied for second on the Scranton roster. In seven overall events, he has five top-five finishes including two individual medalist results.
Lubba and the Royals will return to action on Tuesday with a tri-match against Marywood and Keystone at the Glenmaura National Golf Club. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Moosic.
