MOOSIC, Pa. - Junior Thomas McAuliffe (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) matched a career-low score with a four-over 75 to earn medalist honors, as The University of Scranton men's golf team (316) rolled past Penn State Hazleton (353) and Wilkes (417) on Thursday in a tri-match at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
Leading the Royals on the day was McAuliffe, who previously carded a 75 last season at Glenmaura against King's (Apr. 22). The round also continues a vast improvement for McAuliffe since opening the season last week, as he has dropped eight shots off his score since starting the season with an 83.
Elsewhere, senior Ian Connell (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and junior Colin Sommers (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) carded a pair of 80's (+9) to finish in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) was fourth with an 81 (+10), while sophomore Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) rounded out the line-up with an 82 (+11).
Penn State Hazleton's low scorer on the day was Jeremy Harper with an 83, while Michael Sherrick of Wilkes carded an 84 for the low round for the Colonels.
The University of Scranton men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Marywood in a dual match at Stonehedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock. Tee-off is set for 12 p.m.
