SUGARLOAF - On a wet and windy day, The University of Scranton men's golf team finished second overall at the Valley Country Club Invitational on Monday afternoon.
On the day, Scranton finished with a team score of 331 to place second, as Penn College was able to take the team title of the event with a score of 324.
Finishing third in the event was Penn State Lehigh Valley with a 341, followed by Penn State Schuykill and DeSales in a tie for fourth with a 347.
Individually, freshman Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and junior Colin Sommers (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) led the Royals on the afternoon, both finishing with a final score of 80 to finish in a tie for third on the individual leaderboard.
Elsewhere, senior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) finished with an 84, sophomore Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) carded an 87, and sophomore John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward Institute) ended the day with an 89.
The University of Scranton men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg for the Landmark Conference Fall Preview hosted by Juniata. Tee-off is set for 12 p.m.
