HOLLIDAYSBURG - Sophomore Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) was dominant on the day, as he fired a 71 (-1) at Scotch Valley Country Club to take individual championship honors in leading The University of Scranton men's golf team at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview Saturday.
On the team leaderboard, the Royals were edged out by Goucher (309) by just one shot, as Scranton finished the day with a team score of 310.
For Campanelli, the individual title at Scotch Valley capped off a strong Fall season, as he earned medalist honors by being the only player to post an under-round score on the day. He also lapped the field by five shots, with his nearest competitors carding a pair of 76's.
Elsewhere for Scranton on the day, junior Thomas McAuliffe (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) posted a 77 (+5) to finish in a tie for fourth, while freshman Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) finished off his first Fall campaign with a 78 (+6) to place in a tie for eighth.
Rounding out the leaderboard for Scranton were senior's Ian Connell (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley), who both carded a pair of 84's to finish in a tie for 20th on the individual leaderboard.
The event concluded a fantastic fall portion of the schedule for the men's golf team, as they went unbeaten in dual matches (10-0) and finished in the top four in all three invitationals they took part in. The Royals will return to the course in April.
