MOOSIC - On a wet, cold day at Glenmaura National Golf Club, The University of Scranton men's golf team was able to finish off the Fall portion of their 2019-20 schedule by placing third at the 2019 Biondi Memorial Invitational on Sunday.
Overall, Scranton finished the final round with a team score of 316 to finish with a 622 for the two-day tournament to finish in a tie for second with host Marywood (the Royals posted a 306 as a team on Saturday). The Pacers, however, bested the Royals on a tiebreaker to finish runner-up in the tournament after posting a lower score in Sunday's final round.
Franklin & Marshall was able to take the tournament, finishing the weekend with a total score of 585 (296-289).
On the individual leaderboard, sophomore Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) had the highest finish on the weekend for Scranton, finishing in sixth after bouncing back from a 79 on Saturday to fire a 73 on Sunday (+2). Elsewhere, junior Thomas McAuliffe (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) placed in a tie for seventh overall with a two-day score of 155 (77 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday).
Rounding out the leaderboard for Scranton was senior Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley), who finished in 10th place overall with a two-day score of 156 (72-84), and freshman Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South), who was 12th overall with a score of 159 (78-81). Junior Colin Sommers, (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), meanwhile, finished 14th overall with a two-day ledger of 174 (88-86).
The conclusion of the event also closed the book on a successful Fall for the Royals, as they went unbeaten in 10 total dual matches. The Royals also finished in the top four in each invitational they took part in over the last month and a half, registering a pair of runner-up finishes in the process.
The University of Scranton men's golf team will return to action in the Spring of 2020.
