Junior goalkeeper Jeff Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) of The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team shook off any butterflies before his first career start on Saturday, helping the Royals post a 14-5 win over Muhlenberg at Fitzpatrick Field.
As a result of his play between the pipes, Sabatini has been named the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for men's lacrosse.
Sabatini made 11 saves in the Royals' season-opening victory, their first since 2013. Muhlenberg scored two early goals, but Sabatini helped the Scranton defense settle down by making five first-half saves as the Royals rallied to take a 7-3 halftime lead.
The second half was more of the same as Sabatini made three saves in each period as the Royals put the game away by outscoring Muhlenberg 6-1 in the third period.
Scranton will be back in action on Wednesday, March 1, when the Royals travel to Cortland, N.Y. to take on 19th-ranked Cortland State at 3:30 p.m.
