The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team was picked third in the preseason poll of Landmark Conference coaches, released by the conference office on Friday.

The Royals received one first-place vote and finished with a total of 40 points. Catholic, the defending champion, and Elizabethtown tied for the top spot, both finishing with 48 points. Catholic received four first place votes while Elizabethtown picked up two.

Susquehanna follows Scranton in fourth place with 30 points, followed by Goucher (18), Drew (9) and Moravian (8).

Scranton is coming off a 2016 season in which the Royals went 11-6 and dropped a Landmark Conference semifinal to Elizabethtown. The Royals are currently 1-1 on the season and will be back in action on Sunday, March 5, when they face second-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology at noon in Rochester, N.Y.

The Royals will open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, March 25, against Goucher at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
