Senior goalkeeper Alex Malecki (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) stood tall between the pipes on Saturday, helping The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team rally for an 8-4 victory over Goucher in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams. As a result, Malecki has been named the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week for men's lacrosse.
Malecki made six saves in the second half as the Royals (4-2, 1-0 Landmark) turned a 3-2 halftime deficit into a victory. Four of those saves came in the third period when the Royals outscored the Gophers, 4-1. He then made a save early in the fourth to help Scranton keep momentum and came up with his final save late in the game to thwart any comeback hopes for Goucher.
Earlier in the week, he made three saves in the first 47 minutes as the Royals built an 11-2 lead en route to an 11-5 win at Marywood on Thursday.
On the week, Malecki saved 10 of the 16 shots he faced for a save percentage of .625. For the season, he has three wins in goal with 12 goals allowed and 24 saves for a save percentage of .667.
Malecki and the Royals will be back in action on Tuesday when they host SUNY Potsdam at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
