Men's Lacrosse Stymied In 8-4 Loss To SUNY Geneseo

The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team never got its offense going on Wednesday evening, suffering an 8-4 loss to SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference matchup.

The Royals (5-4) managed just one goal in each period in the defeat. They trailed 2-1 after a period and 5-2 at halftime, but could not mount a comeback against the Knights (6-2).

Scranton received two goals each from senior attackman John Sheridan (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and junior midfielder Jack Kiess (Glen Rock, N.J./Ramapo). Sheridan, junior midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) and junior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each had three ground balls to lead the team.

Senior defenseman Sean Ebert (Woolwich Township, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) had a strong game on defense and finished with two caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Alex Malecki (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) made seven saves.

Drury won 10 of 16 faceoffs for the Royals, who were successful on 14 of 16 clear attempts. But they committed 19 turnovers and were outshot, 26-23. Both teams were 0-for-3 on man-up chances.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday when they face Moravian in a Landmark Conference game at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
