Freshman attackman Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) scored the most important goal of the season for The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team on Saturday. As a result, he has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.
Killeen scored the game-winning goal with 8:34 remaining to give the Royals a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Susquehanna on Saturday, a victory that clinched a playoff spot for Scranton. A loss would have knocked the Royals from playoff contention.
The Royals trailed 4-1 and 5-2 early in the game, but rallied to tie the game at 5 before the River Hawks retook the lead with 10:56 remaining. But the Royals squared up the match with a goal a little more than a minute later, and Killeen provided the difference-making goal midway through the fourth period.
The game-winning goal was Killeen's second of the match and he also added an assist. He tied for the team lead with seven shots, six of which were on goal, and added two ground balls in the victory.
For the season, Killeen has four goals and four assists for eight points to go along with 13 ground balls.
The men's lacrosse team will complete its regular season on Saturday, April 29, when the Royals host Washington & Jefferson at noon on Senior Day at Fitzpatrick Field. The Royals will find out their playoff opponent and location at the conclusion of the regular season.
