SCRANTON, Pa. - Visiting Montclair State scored six unanswered in between the second and third periods to pull away, as the visiting Redhawks got past The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team, 18-9, on Saturday at Weiss Field.
With the loss, the Royals dropped to 2-3 overall on the year, while Montclair improved to 2-2 on the year with the victory.
In the opening frame of the contest, scoring was easy to come by for both teams, as they tallied a combined nine goals in the first 15 minutes of regulation. Down 5-2 late in the period, the Royals scored back-to-back goals to make it a 5-4 game in favor of Montclair St. entering the second.
But, in the second, the Red Hawks shutout the Royals, as they scored three unanswered goals in the quarter to take an 8-4 lead into halftime. It was more of the same in the third quarter out of intermission, as Montclair tacked on four more goals to open a 12-4 lead on the Royals with 3:53 to go in the quarter.
The eight-goal deficit proved to be too much for the Royals to come back from the rest of the contest, as Montclair coasted down the stretch to take a nine-goal win over Scranton.
