SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Tim DiBisceglie (Mine Hill, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) and junior Connor Casey (Hatfield, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) scored goals and senior goalkeeper Eric Hintz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) made four saves as The University of Scranton men's soccer team earned a 2-0 road victory at Susquehanna on Saturday.
The Royals (8-2-0, 2-2-0 Landmark) snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up three big points in the Landmark Conference playoff race.
DiBisceglie scored his second goal of the season in the 29th minute to put the Royals ahead. Senior defender Pat Codispoti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) picked up an assist on the play.
Scranton maintained that lead into the 76th minute when Casey added the insurance goal, his second tally of the season.
Those two goals made the efforts of Hintz and the rest of the defense stand up. Hintz made a save in the first half and three more in the second to pick up his third shutout of the season and the 22nd of his career, which ranks fifth on the Royals' all-time list.
The defensive unit of Codispoti, senior Matthew Busch (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), junior Tim McGovern (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade) and sophomore Michael Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) helped Scranton hold Susquehanna (5-6-2, 2-1-1 Landmark) to just eight shots, four in each half.
The Royals had 14 shots of their own, including three apiece from Codispoti and sophomore midfielder Kieran Bracken (Stamford, Conn./South Kent). Each team had seven corner kicks in the match.
Scranton will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when the Royals host Dickinson in a non-conference match at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
