Senior Pat Codispoti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) had a big week for the University of Scranton men's soccer team, scoring twice as the Royals went 1-0-1 in a pair of matches, while leading a Royals defense that allowed just two goals on the week.
For his efforts, Codispoti was named the Landmark Conference's Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 23, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. For Codispoti, it marked the first time on his career that he has earned the Landmark's Defensive Athlete of the Week honor.
First against Haverford on Tuesday night, Codispoti picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the 2016 season, as he bent in a shot off a free kick in the second half to knot the match up at 1-1. From there, Codispoti and the defense kept the nationally-ranked Fords off the scoreboard, as Scranton earned a hard-fought draw.
Codispoti and the defense then went on to control Goucher on Saturday, holding the Gophers to just nine shots on the day (Goucher's only goal came on a penalty kick).
Codispoti then got in on the offensive act in the win, scoring late in the second half, as the Royals scored four times in the second period in a 5-1 victory on Senior Day.
Codispoti and the rest of the Royals return to action on Saturday, traveling to Catholic for their final regular season match of the season. The Landmark Conference match gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
