The University of Scranton men's soccer team will look to win their second straight Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday evening, as the second-seeded Royals head to top-seeded Elizabethtown for the 2016 Landmark Title Match. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
Scranton, who comes into the match with a 13-3-1 and winners of five of their last six, head to Elizabethtown (13-2-1) for the second straight season for the Landmark Conference title match. Last season, Scranton rallied back from a 2-1 deficit in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to take their first Landmark title in program history, 3-2.
The Royals earned their berth to the championship match off a thrilling 2-1 win over third-seeded Drew on Wednesday night at Fitzpatrick Field. The game-winner in the contest was scored by senior Pat Codispoti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) on a free kick in the 65th minute, as Scranton kept Drew off the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes of the match to preserve the win.
Elizabethtown took down fourth-seeded Susquehanna at home in their semifinal contest on Wednesday night, 3-1, as the Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. Like Scranton, Elizabethtown comes into the match on a bit of a roll, as they've won eight of their last nine matches.
Scranton will look to avenge a loss in the regular season to Elizabethtown in the match, as the Blue Jays came to Fitzpatrick Field on Oct. 1st and took a 2-1 victory on a goal in the 67th minute that broke a 1-1 tie.
Fans attending Saturday night's match at Elizabethtown are reminded that admission will be charged at the gate: $5 for adults and $3 for seniors (62 and older) and non-Landmark Conference students. Children ages 10 and under are admitted free of charge, as are all Landmark Conference students, faculty and staff with their school ID.
