For the first time in his career, senior James Harris (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Chaminade) of the men's soccer team was named the University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 22, 2017, on Monday.
On the week, Harris had a big day in Scranton's 3-1 win at Goucher on Saturday, as the Royals moved to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the Landmark Conference with a victory that kept them in the race for a Landmark playoff spot entering the final weekend of the regular season.
Against Goucher, Harris scored two goals in the second half, including the eventual game-winner in the 50th minute. The two tallies for the senior were the first two of his senior season, as he has now scored three goals in his career for the Royals.
With Scranton up 2-1 late, Harris added his second goal to put Scranton up for good in the contest, as the Royals have now won at least 10 matches in a season for the third straight season and for the fourth time in the last five years.
On Saturday, Harris and the rest of the 2017 men's soccer seniors will be honored before kick-off, as the Royals host Catholic in their regular season finale at Fitzpatrick Field. The key Landmark Conference match is set to start at 4 p.m.
