Junior Jon Roberts (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) assisted on four goals and set up two game-winning goals over the weekend to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a pair of victories. For his performance, he has been honored as the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.
In a 3-2 victory over Arcadia on Friday night in Scranton's first-ever game on Weiss Field, Roberts set up the game-winning goal with just 3:50 remaining in regulation as the Royals secured an exciting comeback victory over the Knights.
Roberts followed that performance up with a three-assist effort in Scranton's 4-1 triumph over Alvernia on Saturday afternoon. With the Royals and Golden Wolves tied 1-1 in the 54th minute, he assisted on what would prove to be a second game-winning goal in as many day before adding helpers on tallies in the 63th and 83th minutes.
Through just two games, Roberts has already matched his assist totals from both his freshman and sophomore seasons. For his career, he now has 22 points on five goals and 12 assists.
Roberts and the Royals will return to the field on Wednesday when they host King's in a non-conference tilt starting at 4 p.m. at Weiss Field.
