KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Junior midfielder Jon Roberts (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) of The University of Scranton men's soccer team has been honored for excellence both in the classroom and on the pitch this past season, earning United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region Third Team accolades.
The latest award caps off an outstanding fall for Roberts, who has receiving numerous accolades for both his on-field success as well as for his academic performance following a strong junior season.
On the field, Roberts was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team and was a First Team All-Landmark Conference selection after leading Scranton in scoring this past fall, totaling 14 points by scoring four goals and assisting on six others. He led the squad and ranked fourth in the Landmark Conference in assists while tying for the team lead in goals.
Highlighting the junior's efforts this fall was a two-goal performance which included scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory over Landmark Conference for Drew on October 17 and a three-assist effort, tying for the second-most in a match in program history, in a 4-1 win over Alvernia on September 1.
Roberts was named the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week and was honored as The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week on October 22.
Roberts has been just as impressive in the classroom, sporting a 3.50 grade point average while majoring in marketing. He was recently named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year and is the first Scranton men's soccer player to earn Scholar All-Region honors since four Royals accomplished the feat in 2016.
