Sophomore Michael Diana (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) had an impressive week, winning all four diving competitions in The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team's two events. As a result, Diana has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
On Friday night, Diana helped the Royals defeat Marywood, 223.5-56.5, and Misericordia, 180-94, in a tri-meet held at Marywood. He captured the 1-meter diving by finishing with a total of 198.60 points. He also won the 3-meter diving by a wide margin, finishing with 310.88 points.
A day later, Diana was again victorious twice as the Royals edged Drew, 123-108, in a dual meet in Madison, N.J. He secured 18 important team points by winning the 1-meter diving with a total of 202.65 points, then taking the 3-meter diving with 217.05 points.
Diana will now have nearly four weeks to prepare for the Landmark Conference championships starting Feb. 16, where he was the Landmark Diver of the Year last year. The swim teams will host Susquehanna on Senior Day in the regular season finale on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Byron Center.
