WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team finished off a solid weekend at the Diamond City Invitational on Sunday afternoon, as the Royals placed third as a team in the event with a total score of 557.5
On Sunday, the day got off to a fast start for Scranton, as sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) continued his strong weekend in the pool with a second place finish in the 200-backstroke, finishing in 1:56.18.
Next up in the 100-freestyle, sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) was victorious, taking the event after hitting the wall in 48.83. Fimmano continued his winning ways later in the day in the 200-butterfly, capturing that event after finishing in 2:01.84 (which was almost five seconds better than his nearest competitor).
Elsewhere, in the 200-breaststroke, junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) placed fifth overall with a time of 2:20.73, while in the final relay of the weekend, Scranton's 400-medley team finished third overall with a time of 3:16.14. In the final event of the weekend, freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was Scranton's highest finisher in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 17:56.10 to place seventh overall.
Overall on the weekend, Scranton placed third out of nine schools that competed in the Diamond City Invitational. The Royals finished just short of both host King's (673.5) and Wilkes (574) in the final team standings, as well.
